Unless you’ve met him in person, it’s very hard to know Robert Downey Jr.’s height for sure. Most sources estimate that he’s about 5’8″ tall, which is 1-2 inches below average height in the U.S.
Truth be told, many famous short actors are actually shorter in real life than most people think they are.
Knowing that, we think 5’8″ is probably generous. RDJ is likely 5’8″ when wearing shoes and slightly shorter in bare feet.
Seeing him standing next to 5’3″ Sarah Jessica Parker (above), he may even be closer to 5’6″ in real life.
Either way, we love his work and admire him for achieving so much, regardless of his height.

Who cares Tom Cruise is only 5’6. Many foxy leading men are short ansd sexy.
Years ago when I was working at Comic-Con, he came over to get a photo with me. I’m 5’6”, and I felt uncomfortable standing at my full height, because I didn’t want to make him appear short in the photo. He was right around my height, and I was wearing flats.
I was at the beach with him, I’m standing tall at 5f6 and he was definately no taller than me! We were the same height!
He’s been ashamed of his height that’s why he’s wearing those crazy footwear with lifts. What a shame. I’m 5f6 and actually don’t give a fuck just because I’m short!
Im very skeptical of your claim. Why were you at the beach with him? You guys best buds.. also I’ve seen photos of him proving he is a legit 5’8.9 – 5’9
You would never know he was 5’8″ in his movies. I wonder if movie producers have to “enhance” his height for specific roles.
They definitely use certain angles, heightening footwear, short co-actors, etc. to trick the eye. Lots of famous actors (even tough guys like Stallone) are way shorter than most people think!
